Independence Day
July 4, Sunday – Independence Day
The 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence did not sign at the same time, nor did they sign on July 4, 1776. The official event occurred on August 2, 1776, when 50 men signed it. The last to sign was New Castle's Thomas McKean....in January, 1777.

July 5, Monday – City Offices Closed. No Trash Pickup

July 6, Tuesday – Revised Trash Pickup Date.

July 26 – August 30 – Exhibit: Tying The Knot – New Castle Nuptials Since 1784
Old Library Museum and Amstel House. These exhibits feature fourteen historic wedding dresses, a groom’s suit, and a variety of accessories from the Historical Society’s extensive clothing collection. The Old Library is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 1 pm to 4 pm, and admission is free. The Amstel House is open Wednesday through Saturday, with scheduled tours beginning at 10 am, 12 noon, and 2 pm. Sunday tours begin at 12 noon and 2 pm. Admission to the Amstel House is $4.00.
